These blocks and slabs are stabilized wood for knife handles. These were stabilized by me using a Methacrylate monomer. You may have small voids that are natural in the wood by virtue of Mother Nature. These small voids can easily be filled with a super glue of your choice or left alone to bring out the naturalness of the piece. The number of voids is dependant entirely on the wood itself. Some will have none some will have more than one or two. The wood that I sell is predominately California Buckeye Burl. The wood has not been polished. It was coated with water for the picture to bring out the figure. These pieces are larger than what you can normally buy stabilized. With the larger pieces more width and thickness for the knife handle is available which in turn offers you more options.
Buckeye Burl (Aesculus Californica) is native to the Western United States. It is one of the most sought after burls by Knifemakers. Buckeye burl has a spectacular swirling grain pattern with colors ranging from blue/gray to black with rust and yellar gold thrown in. This will vary for every knife handle. This wood is stabilized and finishes very well. Makes an irresistible knife. Personally it is my favorite wood knife handle material.
